58 Marygate, York

We have already written several articles about the city of York. You can find them here: York, Part 1, and here York, Part 2, and here York, Part 3.

Because we love Yorkshire, we recently (May 2025) traveled to York again with some friends who had never been there. As we were planning our accommodations, we came across 58 Marygate,  York. What a delightful find it was!

Located on Marygate, less than 10 minutes’ walk to York Minster, Betty’s Tea Room in York, and the York Train Station, the house is on a quiet street across from the Museum Gardens and St Olave Church. It features a Master bedroom with an en-suite, a second master bedroom that shares the family bathroom, an upstairs room with twin beds, and a ground-floor bunk bedroom. All told, it can sleep eight. We were a party of four adults, so the two upper-floor masters served us very well.

The kitchen is well-appointed and has a full washer-dryer as well as a dishwasher, items that can be rare in English cottages. The table is large and comfortable, and the room is bright and welcoming.

The kitchen is large, welcoming, and fully equipped.

The Lounge is welcoming, with two sofas and two armchairs that accommodated us well. The TV in the lounge worked well for us in the evenings. Even with 8 people, there would be enough room for everyone.

The lounge is comfortable and fits eight people well.

The beds were comfortable, and the bathrooms were immaculately clean and fully functional, with both having showers, and the family bathroom also featuring a large tub.

Parking is handled by the city car park just behind the facility, a couple of minutes’ walk. There is a walking lane that leads directly from the car park to the side of the front door of 58 Margate, making it simple to get in and out of York. Depending on how long you plan to stay in York, you can either pay for parking with your phone on a daily or weekly basis.

The property manager, Louise, is very responsive and easy to work with. We had lovely communications with her before, during, and after our stay. She was a delight to work with in the booking process, and we found the entire experience to be well above average.

If you are going to York, consider 58 Marygate as a lodging, it is an excellent option.
