Afternoon Tea Bus Tour

In London there are many attractions and unique offerings for a visitor. We have not personally been able to see them all, but that doesn’t mean we cannot tell you about them. Our good friend, Misty Watkins and her husband recently visited London for a few days before going on to other sites and then joining us for a cruise back to the US. They were able to experience one attraction that we have not as yet, so we invited her to write about it for you. We definitely plan to add it to the list on our next visit to London as it looks to be a lot of fun! And check out Misty’s Facebook page if you are looking to travel to or with any Disney connection. She is a Disney Travel Agent, and very good at it, too!

Afternoon Tea Bus Tour – London

By Misty Watkins

The Afternoon Tea Bus Tour in London is, in a word, delightful. Also charming, delicious, unique and fun. Guests are served a full afternoon tea (sandwich variety, desserts and warm scones) while enjoying a tour around London’s highlights in a 1960’s vintage double decker bus. And it is done well!

My husband and I recently visited London as we were en route to Dover and literally days before we left I read an article in Tea Time Magazine (May/June 2017) on the “B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour” – I was completely intrigued! B Bakery is a French tea salon and patisserie in London’s Covent Garden. They have eight vintage buses that take guests “on a gentle meander” through London’s most fashionable neighborhoods and past many of its most famous landmarks, all while enjoying goods made at the bakery! Making a reservation was easy (http://london.b-bakery.com/afternoon-tea-london/afternoon-tea-bus-london-tour/). I prepaid, printed the reservation and we were good to go.

Our bus met at Victoria Coach Station (not to be confused with Victoria Station) and we were advised to be early, as the buses leave on time. And they were right! Our seats were on the top of the double decker bus, and I totally recommend these over the lower section as we had an amazing view. Our sandwiches and cakes were already at the table when we arrived and our server explained the tea choices. Tea is served in a refillable, lidded cup and guests are asked to only remove the lid to add cream/sugar. There’s a handy cup holder, so no mishaps with the tea along the way! The sandwiches and desserts were delicious, and the server stopped by our table to give a description of each dessert (my favorite was a mango delicacy). About 45 minutes into our trip, we were served hot scones, individual servings of clotted cream and jam. Heaven!

A highlight of this tea is the scenery along the way! I do not recommend this time to take photos–just relax and enjoy the ride. There is a great blend of commentary,  music and highlights such as the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Harrods, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Notting Hill,  Marble Arch, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and the London Eye.  You see so many of the sites you have heard, read, or dreamed about from an iconic, double-decker bus whilst you enjoy tea and scones— what could be better?

My hat is off to B Bakery and their Afternoon Tea Bus Tour! Our experience could not have been sweeter and the fact that we ended the tour singing Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” with everyone on the top deck was just the icing on the cake!
