Thanksgiving in London, Part 2
It has been a while since I posted Part 1, but I do want to finish these two articles so here goes.
While in London during Thanksgiving, one event that is definitely worth the time is to visit the various Christmas Markets, both in London and out of the metropolitan area. These Christmas Markets are full of small booths or chalets, populated by local crafters and small volume artisans who peddle their wares at these markets.
One of the locations in London is at the Apple Market, in Covent Garden. It varies from year to year, but last year featured outdoor dining in “igloos,” wine-tasting booths, and lots of street entertainers and buskers.
Just under the Apple Market is another open-air space, with a lovely Whittards Tea shop that serves wonderful tea and scones. Just the thing to warm you up after shopping in the marketplace!
There are other markets in London that we have not yet visited, but plan to do so in the future. Ask your cab driver about them and you will not be disappointed.
Public transportation in UK is excellent, so it is practical to plan a day trip to other locations. One well worth visiting is Winchester, about an hour away by train from London. The Winchester Cathedral has a fabulous Christmas Market with over a hundred chalets spread over the Cathedral grounds.
We have visited the Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market several times, and have never been disappointed. There are crafters selling jewelry, wood products, knitted items, clothing, vintage items, and more. In addition, there are food stalls and a food court that also sells hot chocolate, mulled wine, and other beverages. And note that the Cathedral has a restaurant that has a more full menu of typical British fare. While there, take the tour of the Cathedral itself. It has a wonderful and very colorful history!
I absolutely love these articles and look forward to more of the same!
