The George Restaurant & Bar, Molash, Kent
On one of our journeys in 2016, we wanted to spend some time in Kent, a county in the South East of England we had previously only visited briefly. Arriving at our rented cottage we asked the owner where we could get a good meal and she recommended The George, in Molash. Having some sightseeing to do first we didn’t get to The George until the third day. Being Americans who tend to eat dinner earlier than the British, securing a reservation was not a problem.
The George is in Molash, a very small village, really more of a hamlet, on the A252 in Kent. As A252 passes through Molash, the road it is on is named “The Street.” Here is a picture of the area showing all of Molash. The George is in the bottom center of the picture, with the parking lot in front.
The George is a straightforward country pub style dining room, cozy and welcoming. We noted Lamb was on the menu which is something we rarely turn down. In this case Lamb Shanks with mashed potatoes were offered and both of us didn’t hesitate to order. Our dinner was served promptly and did not disappoint—the lamb fell off the bone, the potatoes were lovely and creamy. One thing we have appreciated about most British restaurants is that the quantity is just right and we are able to appreciate every last bite without feeling overly full. A glass of Merlot wine was the perfect choice to go with the meal, and we managed to reserve a little room for Crème Brulee for dessert.
Since our visit, The George has done well; it was a finalist in the 2018 Taste of Kent Awards. Most recently, the chef, Charlotte Marshall, won the Booker Pub Chef of the year prize. The menu obviously changes from time to time but is always interesting and creative. We highly recommend it to those traveling to the Kent region.
The George in Molash. Go.
